Chapter 8

Saturday, October 23

The Saturday of the Ghost Therapy filming had finally arrived. In the past week, Angie had fixed the electrical system, the lottery and auction winners had been selected and contacted, and Tim and Tom had shown up and toured the place. Shaggy and Shanti had shown up at our house this morning to sit with the animals.

In the past hour, Tim, Tom, and their crew had settled in, the auction and lottery winners had shown up, and Mike had canvased the house to make sure we were alone. After Tony and I collected everyone’s signed liability waiver, we’d faded into the background to keep an eye on things. Angie had joined the film crew so she’d be on hand if needed, which only left the owner of the property unaccounted for. Eventually, he called and canceled, so it looked like we were good to go.

“I guess this is it,” I said as the sun set beyond the horizon. Tim and Tom had wanted to wait to start filming until it was dark outside and hadn’t wanted the guests hanging around too long before that, so we had them arrive at five-thirty, so they could be given instructions as to what they were and weren’t allowed to do during the filming.

“I keep thinking the crew planted props of some sort,” Tony whispered. “I mean, the show will be a dud if Tim and Tom aren’t able to contact ghosts in need of their advice.”

“I’m sure part of what they were doing here yesterday was setting lights and noises up on timers.” I glanced toward the group hanging out behind the curtain. “It looks like Angie fits right in with the crew.”

Tony grinned. “She sure was excited to meet everyone. When Tim suggested that she hang with the crew during the event just in case she was needed, I know she felt honored to do so. Have you ever seen this show?”

“I hadn’t before the idea to film the special here was brought up, and then I watched a few episodes just to make sure it wasn’t too corny.”

“And?” Tony asked.

I shrugged. “It’s entertaining. Tim and Tom have really great personalities, and the banter between them is fun. Even if the ‘ghosts’ they encounter and counsel are fake, the advice they give is actually pretty good. I wouldn’t be surprised if one or both of them have had training as a counselor.”

“So what do they do at this point?” Tony asked as Tim and Tom had the camera crew go live, and they began filming the intro.

“The show only airs for an hour, so most of the episodes I watched began with Tim and Tom doing an intro which fills the viewer in on the history of both the haunted property and the spirit or spirits they hope to contact. This part can be fairly complex and usually takes up about a quarter of an hour. I’m not sure how much film they have to shoot to get a
